THE INTEGRITY OF THE FICTIONAL TEXT: THE PROBLEM OF THE UNITY OF THE NARRATIVE «THE NEW YORK TRILOGY» BY PAUL AUSTER

Abstract. This article attempts to understand problems of structural integrity in the trilogy of contemporary American writer Paul Auster, whose postmodern art installation implemented in the text. The unity of the author's opinion on characters and events that happen to them, allegedly without reason, determine the integrity of the trilogy. The dynamic interaction and the interpenetration of the structural components of the The New York Trilogy’s narrative creates a special integrity postmodern works, where the fragmentation and discontinuity of disparate techniques are synthesized in unity. Trilogy immerses the reader into the world of lost individuals in a ruined city, surrounded by useless and vain language.
